Gravells Group Managing Director Jonathan Gravell has received the 2021 Terry Davis Automotive Award from the Welsh Motoring Writers.
The Welsh Kia ® dealer group has been recognized for its ‘excellence’ in the automotive sector.
He received the trophy at a special ceremony held at Gravells Kia Hereford – the first Gravells dealership to open outside Wales.
The car retail group moved the Korean brand to the former Newtown Nissan (GB) dealership on Harrow Road, Hereford, in March 2021, to expand its established Kia stronghold in Abergavenny, Bridgeend, Fforestfach, Narberth and Swansea .
The award recognizes personal or corporate excellence in the automotive sector and has been awarded to numerous personalities since its inception in 2010.
It was renamed the Terry Davies Automotive Award in 2017, in memory of the highly respected former chairman of Welsh Motoring Writers.
Previous winners of the award include Mazda Motors UK, the Welsh Automotive Forum and Ian Cameron, chief designer of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars (1999-2012) and Honda UK.
Simon Harris, Chairman of the Welsh Motoring Writers, said: “Gravells has been a valued partner to all the motoring brands it has represented in South Wales for many years, including Kia UK.
“Family owned businesses like Gravells thrive on loyalty and word of mouth, which helps to retain customers and reach new ones, and this can only be achieved through excellent customer service. It’s at the heart of how Jonathan Gravell runs the business.
“The fact that Gravells has recently gained a foothold across the border in England with Kia, while remarkable, should come as no surprise.
“Jonathan is a very worthy recipient of the 2021 Terry Davies Automotive Award.”
Gravells has a long history in Wales, dating back to 1932, with its first Kia dealership opening to customers in 2007.
Today it operates six Kia dealerships, which are frequently awarded for their customer service, for example with the Kidwelly site becoming one of the first dealerships to be accredited with the “ServiceMark with Distinction” by the Institute of Customer Service (ICS) – the highest level of accreditation awarded by the Institute and held only by 14 organizations in the UK.
Abergavenny and Narberth dealerships received the 800 Award by Reputation for outstanding customer service across a wide range of criteria. Gravells also received the 2019 AM Award for Best Dealer Group (up to 10 locations).
Gravell said, “It is a great pleasure and pleasure to receive this award. Everyone at Gravells works tirelessly to put our customers at the forefront of the business, so earning this award means a lot not just to me but to the entire Gravells dealer family.
“This award is particularly humbling, following the unprecedented circumstances of the past two years. I thank all Welsh motoring writers for this exceptional recognition.”
