STARKVILLE, Mississippi — A professor of mechanical engineering from the State of Mississippi is honored with a respected award for his work with the Society of Automotive Engineers.

Yucheng Liu, University Jack Hatcher Chair in Engineering Entrepreneurship at Bagley College of Engineering, receives the 2020 Forest R. McFarland Award from SAE International.

The McFarland Award is presented annually to SAE members who have made outstanding contributions to SAE Engineering events through the planning, development and dissemination of technical information through meetings, conferences and programs. professional development.

Established in 1979, the award honors the late Forest R. McFarland, who was a session organizer at SAE events, president of the passenger car business and a member of the board of engineering meetings.

“I am delighted to hear that I have been selected to receive this prestigious award,” said Liu. “I would like to thank the SAE and the awards committee for giving me this honor. I must also thank the leaders of Bagley College of Engineering and my colleagues in the Department of Mechanical Engineering for creating such a supportive and resourceful environment that allows me to pursue excellence in teaching and research, while being very involved in professional societies such as the SAE. ,” he said.

Liu will officially receive his award at the WCX World Congress Experience in Detroit, Michigan, April 21-23.

“I also could not have received this award without the help of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the hard work of my students, especially the student officers of the MSU SAE chapter,” Liu added.
