Against this background, total vehicle production in the first quarter decreased by 12.4% compared to the same period of the previous year to 302 thousand 730 units, while automotive production decreased by 21.5% to 166 thousand 363 units. With the production of tractors, the total production amounted to 315 thousand 406 units.

During the January-March period, the total capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 63%. Based on vehicle group; capacity utilization was 62% for light vehicles (cars + light commercial vehicles), 91% for the truck group, 12% for the bus-midibus group and 63% for the tractor. Looking at the data on a monthly basis, the production of the automotive industry in March decreased by 13.7% compared to the same month of the previous year and became 106 thousand 575 units, while the automotive production decreased from 23.9% to 57 thousand 41 units in the same period.

Increase in heavy commercial production

During the period January-March 2022, the production of commercial vehicles increased by 2% compared to the same period of the previous year. This rate was 28% for heavy-duty vehicles and there was a drop of 0.3% for the production of light-duty vehicles. In the first quarter of this year, the heavy-duty vehicle market decreased by 1%, the truck market by 2% and the bus market by 14% compared to the same period of the previous year. The midibus market, on the other hand, grew by 52%.

The total market was 160,000 units

Tractor exports increased by 30%

In the first quarter of the year, total vehicle exports decreased by 14% on a unit basis compared to the same period of the previous year, and amounted to 225,550 units. During this period, automobile exports fell by 20% to 124,599 units, while commercial vehicle exports fell by 4%. Tractor exports, on the other hand, increased by 2021% from 30 and amounted to 4,000,694 units.

Exports of $7.6 billion in the first quarter

During the period January-March 2022, compared to the same period of the previous year, total automotive exports decreased by 3% in dollars and increased by 4% in euros compared to the same period of the year previous. In euro terms, automobile exports decreased by 16% and amounted to 1.9 billion euros.
